The Constituent Assembly was formed in November 1946 under the Cabinet Mission Plan to draft India's Constitution. Its first meeting was held on December 9, 1946, with Dr. Sachchidananda Sinha as the interim president. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was later elected as the permanent President on December 11, 1946.
