Classification of Plants

Plants are divided into two major groups:

1. Non-Vascular Plants (Bryophytes)

• No roots, stems, or leaves
• Example: Moss (Bryophyta), Liverworts
• Survive in moist places

2. Vascular Plants

• Have proper roots, stems, leaves, and transport tissue (xylem & phloem)
• Further divided into:

- Pteridophytes — ferns (no seeds)

- Gymnosperms — seeds without fruit (e.g., Pine, Cycas)

- Angiosperms — seeds inside fruit; most common (e.g., mango, wheat)

1. असंवहनी पौधे (ब्रायोफाइट)

• जड़, तना या पत्तियाँ नहीं होतीं

2. संवहनी पौधे

• जड़, तना, पत्तियाँ और परिवहन ऊतक (जाइलम एवं फ्लोएम) होते हैं
• आगे विभाजित:

- टेरिडोफाइट — फर्न (बीज नहीं)

- अनावृत्तबीजी — फल के बिना बीज (जैसे पाइन, साइकस)

- आवृत्तबीजी — फल के भीतर बीज; सबसे आम (जैसे आम, गेहूँ)

Photosynthesis

The process by which plants make food.

Equation:

`6CO₂ + 6H₂O + Light Energy → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂`

• Occurs in chloroplasts, which contain chlorophyll (green pigment)
• Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light; reflects green (hence plants look green)
• Takes place in two stages:

1. Light reactions — occur in thylakoid membrane; split water, release O₂

2. Calvin cycle (Dark reactions) — occur in stroma; produce glucose

Plants store food as starch.

पौधे भोजन स्टार्च के रूप में संग्रहीत करते हैं।

Parts of a Plant & Their Functions

• Root — absorbs water and minerals; anchors the plant
• Stem — transports water/food; supports leaves and flowers
• Leaf — main site of photosynthesis; has tiny pores called stomata for gas exchange
• Flower — reproductive organ; attracts pollinators
• Fruit — protects seeds; aids dispersal
• Seed — contains embryo; germinates to form new plant

Xylem transports water upward (root → leaf). Phloem transports food downward (leaf → root).

जाइलम जल को ऊपर (जड़ → पत्ती) ले जाता है। फ्लोएम भोजन को नीचे (पत्ती → जड़) ले जाता है।
