Sandhi is the PHONETIC combination of two adjacent sounds/letters at word JUNCTIONS, producing a CHANGED sound — classified into THREE types: swar sandhi (vowel+vowel, e.g., विद्या+आलय = विद्यालय), vyanjan sandhi (consonant-involving, e.g., जगत्+नाथ = जगन्नाथ), and visarga sandhi (involving the ':' visarga sound, e.g., निः+चल = निश्चल).
