How to apply for BPSC TRE-4
Everything below is from BPSC's own advertisement, clause by clause — the dates, the fee, which TET each level needs, and the handful of steps that cannot be undone once you take them.

Which TET does your level need?
Applying at a level whose TET you do not hold is rejected outright. Teachers appointed before 2012 who cleared the दक्षता परीक्षा are exempt from the TET requirement.

Plan your preference order
One application covers every level you are eligible for, and you mark the order. BPSC works down it and publishes exactly one result: the first level you clear. Tick the TETs you hold to see what your order means.
Tick at least one TET. Without the TET for a level, an application at that level is rejected outright.
TET is necessary, not sufficient: academic and training qualifications and the age limits apply to every level too. This planner checks only the TET.
What changed on 22 September
Advertisement 15/2026 cancels advertisement 14/2026 and replaces it. If you prepared against the August notification, three things are now different.
⚠ One examination, not two
Selection is now on one objective written examination. There is no Preliminary examination, no Main examination and no interview — and no second application after a result.
⚠ One application, not one per level
You file a single application and give your preferences inside it. Under the cancelled advertisement each level was a separate application with a separate fee; that is no longer how the portal works.
The paper
150 questions, 150 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes, one paper for your level. Part I (language) is 30 questions and is qualifying only — you must score 30% in it, and it does not enter the merit list.
⚠ What decides your rank
Classes 1–5: Part II alone, 120 marks. Classes 6–8, 9–10 and 11–12: Part II (40) plus your subject paper, Part III (80). Part I never adds to your total at any level — but it IS a tie-breaker: equal totals are separated by Part III, then by Part I, then by age, and finally by name in Devanagari order. So the qualifying paper can still decide a rank.
⚠ Negative marking — unchanged
1/3 mark is deducted for a wrong answer. Each question has five options A–E, where (E) means 'I do not wish to answer'. Leaving a question completely BLANK is deducted 1/3 exactly like a wrong answer — to skip safely you must actively mark (E).

25 October 2026 — a day BEFORE the form deadline. Filling the form on the 26th with no payment made is not an application.

⚠ Certificates must be dated
On or before 26 October 2026. If the deadline is extended, this date is NOT extended with it.
Exam date
Not announced. The advertisement gives no date — only this application window. Anything you have seen is a guess.
How to apply
The portal moved. A One Time Registration you completed for an earlier BPSC examination does not carry over.
Where
bpsconline.bihar.gov.in — the Commission's online portal. Applications are accepted there and nowhere else.
⚠ One Time Registration must be done again
Register afresh on this portal even if you hold an OTR from an earlier BPSC examination. Do it before the last days — an OTR that is not complete is an application that cannot be started.
Documents
Uploading your documents is compulsory, and DigiLocker is the route the portal offers: the Meri Pehchan page opens as soon as OTR finishes, and you can sign in, or create an account, or use the browser's back button to go to the ordinary upload form instead. If you do use DigiLocker, check the documents are actually in it first.
⚠ Preferences and your result
One application carries your preferences across every level you are eligible for, and exactly ONE result is declared for you. The Commission works down your preference order and stops at the first level you clear; your candidature for every level below it then lapses automatically. The advertisement's own example runs 1. Class 11–12, 2. Class 1–5, 3. Class 6–8, 4. Class 9–10, 5. Class 9–10 Special School Teacher.
⚠ If you leave the preference blank
The result is published for the HIGHER class group only, and your candidature for every lower one lapses automatically. Leaving the column empty is not a way of keeping your options open — it is a choice, and it is made for you.
Your language choice carries across levels
The Part I language you pick for one level applies to every level you have applied for. You cannot sit Hindi for one and Urdu for another.
⚠ District allotment is not yours to choose
The Commission conducts the examination and publishes the result; the district is allotted by the Education Department afterwards. There is no district-preference column in this advertisement — if a site tells you to choose 38 districts, it is describing the cancelled one.
Attempts
A candidate may sit this examination a maximum of five times.
Fee
Examination fee
₹100 — a flat fee, the same for every candidate. There is no category concession, and none is needed. Your bank's own charge is added on top and is deducted automatically at payment, so the amount debited will be a little more than ₹100.
⚠ Applying for more than one level
Still ₹100. One application carries every preference, so you pay once however many levels you are eligible for. Under the cancelled advertisement this was charged per level — if someone tells you to pay twice, they are reading the August notification.
⚠ Biometric fee
₹200 extra, but ONLY if you do not enter an Aadhaar number. Entering Aadhaar avoids it — and BPSC also warns that OTP problems at document verification can cost you your candidature, so link a working mobile number to it.
Refunds
None. A cancelled payment or a cancelled application is not refunded.
If you are still awaiting STET 2026
A specific concession that a lot of candidates do not know they have.
Can you apply?
Yes. Candidates who hold the academic and training qualifications and are appearing in STET 2026 may apply.
⚠ The condition
You must PASS STET 2026 before the written examination. If you have not, no admit card is issued — the application simply stops there.
What you must submit
A self-declaration at the time of applying, in the format on the BPSC website, plus the originals for verification when asked.
Reservation & domicile
⚠ Who gets reservation
Bihar domiciled candidates only. A candidate from outside Bihar is treated as unreserved, whatever their category at home — and that applies to women's and PwD reservation too.
Women
35% horizontal reservation — Bihar domiciled women only.
Persons with disability
4% horizontal reservation, for benchmark disability (40% or above), Bihar domiciled. A scribe must be requested in the form itself — mark 'Yes' in the scribe column.
Bihar institution quota
40% of the posts go to candidates who passed Matric OR Intermediate from an institution inside Bihar. If enough such candidates are not available, those posts return to the open 60%.
⚠ Married women claiming reservation
Caste, domicile and creamy-layer certificates must be issued in the FATHER's name and from the father's address — not the husband's.
Atithi Shikshak weightage
How much
5 marks per year of service, capped at 25 marks — on a 150-mark paper that is up to one sixth of the total.
Where it applies
Added after you have reached the minimum qualifying marks on your own. It cannot carry you over the qualifying bar — it only moves you up the merit list once you are over it.
What you need
An experience certificate and an appointment letter issued by the District Education Officer.
Things that cannot be undone
The portal locks in stages. These are the points of no return.
⚠ After One Time Registration
Your name, father's name, mother's name, gender, Aadhaar number and date of birth CANNOT be changed. There is no provision for it. Check every character before you lock.
Only one OTR
More than one registration is not permitted and can get your application rejected.
⚠ After payment
The post and subject you chose cannot be changed, added to or removed. Changing them means cancelling the payment and starting the whole process again — and the cancelled payment is not refunded.
⚠ Payment made but no final submit
The application does not count. If you paid and did not submit the final form, you have not applied.
⚠ Preference order
Your preferences decide which single result is declared for you. Once the form is submitted they cannot be reordered, and there is no second application to correct them in.
Hard copies
Do not post anything to the Commission. Hard copies sent on your own initiative are not considered — but keep printed copies and four recent passport photographs for yourself.
Maximum age
Minimum age is 18 for classes 1–5 and 6–8, and 21 for classes 9–10 and 11–12, reckoned as on 1 August 2026.
