Free Marks — If You Stop Guessing
Every Hindi language paper carries two to four questions on muhavare and lokoktiyan. They need no reasoning, no formula and no calculation. They are pure recall, which makes them the cheapest marks on the paper — and yet candidates routinely drop them, for two avoidable reasons.
The first is that people try to guess a meaning from the words. Muhavare are figurative by definition: the literal reading is always wrong, and the paper always puts the literal reading among the options as bait.
The second is that people cannot tell a muhavara from a lokokti, so a question that simply asks *which of these is a lokokti* becomes a coin toss.
Both problems disappear with one structural test and a list you can read in ten minutes. This card set gives you the test first, then the list.
1. What does the muhavara "नाक कटना" mean?
2. Which of the following is a lokokti (kahavat) and not a muhavara?
3. The muhavara "थाली का बैंगन" is used for a person who:
4. What does the lokokti "अंधों में काना राजा" mean?
5. Which statement correctly distinguishes a muhavara from a lokokti?
6. What does the muhavara "आँखों में धूल झोंकना" mean?
7. The lokokti "नाच न जाने आँगन टेढ़ा" is used for a person who:
8. Fill in the blank with the most suitable muhavara: "अपना अनुत्तीर्ण परिणाम देखते ही उसके ______।"
