Population is the densest source of one-mark questions in the whole general awareness section, and also the easiest place to lose them.
The reason is that the questions are almost never about a number. They are about which measure a number belongs to. Uttar Pradesh has the most people. Bihar has the most people per square kilometre. Rajasthan has the most land. Kerala has the highest literacy and the highest sex ratio. Those are four different superlatives about four different quantities, and an option list will offer all four names whichever one is being asked for.
So the skill here is not memory but sorting. Before you look for the answer, decide which measure the question is using — total population, density, area, ratio or percentage — and most of the options disqualify themselves.
This card set covers the census as an institution, the headline figures of 2011 that papers still use, the state-level superlatives, and the migration and settlement vocabulary that sits alongside them.
